“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” – Thomas Edison

Someone call Rita, because we’re getting very close to a new all-time high. The stock market rallied again on Thursday. At one point, the index traded above its all-time closing high.

By the closing bell, the index stood at 6,141.02, which is only 0.05% below the all-time record close from four months ago. That’s just one-twentieth of one percent.

Now that we have a little distance from the events of earlier this year, we can see how absurd the panic selling was. In 34 trading days, the S&P 500 lost 18.9%. All this for a trade war that wasn’t going anywhere.

Measuring from the market’s closing low on April 9 to Thursday’s close, the S&P 500 gained more than 23%. For most investors, sitting around and doing nothing is a pretty solid strategy.

On Wednesday, the market had a tiny loss, and I mean, a teeny tiny loss. The S&P 500 lost 0.02 points. If the S&P 500 were to experience Wednesday’s loss every single day for 100 years, the combined loss would still be less than 12%.

Our Buy List looks like it will beat the S&P 500 for the first half of this year. We’ve had new highs, or near-new highs, recently from stocks like Amphenol, Heico, ICE, Intuit and Rollins. Since April 8, Amphenol is up 62%. Intuit is up 35% for us, and IES Holdings is up by 73%.

In this week’s issue, I’ll go over Monday’s earnings report from FactSet. The company missed Wall Street’s estimate by three cents per share, but the company reiterated its previous guidance, and the shares rallied more than 3% after the report.

We also had exciting news from Fiserv. The company is joining in on the mainstreaming of stablecoin. There’s a lot to get to, but first, let’s look at some recent economic news.
